Wording For Fashion Show Invitations
We carry some articles you read around the net on a very sensitive topic of discussion these days in Italy, that sooner or later anyone involved creating artwork for editorial purposes, that is comic, Illustration fiction, poetry or other ...
E 'self-produce their best work or stay current with the rules of the publishers?
Emiliano Mammuccari thinks so:
So what should you do to start making comics?I am a bit 'too young to give advice, but after thirteen years in a job I would give it to you:Do as you did once. Do what you do in America, or Japan. Do as they do their and their .Put your face. You two, three, four? open a VAT as a cultural association (it costs about 150 €) and autoproducete your material. Take a stand at trade shows, and selling 200 copies the self-styled "small publisher" to do with Lucca and Naples Comicon. So if you work for free at this point you do something to be proud of.
on the same line is Roberto Recchioni addressing the issue in three very interesting articles:
Reasoning :the bulk of sales of this kind of products is made to the shows (to be honest: do you Lucca) and is represented by a sold between 300 and 600 copies. 1000 if you ass or names. So produciamocele these copies alone, and especially vendiamocele alone. At trade shows, first, perhaps taking advantage of joint ventures with other authors to share the costs of the stand.organizing meetings in libraries with small tour in Italy (you can do if you agreements with libraries).doing promotions on the web and followed it by himself, without relying on often distracted (or worse) press officers.participating in cultural events. And so on.
Recchioni interview Lorenzo Ceccotti also in art LRNZ returned from self-produced two proposals brought to Lucca Comics this year:
Now, it is clear that the example does not lead the market. But do we understand each other: the advance from the publishers of mid-level, is around 1000-1500 € (at best) for volumes of 100 pages or more. They do between 10 and 15 euro per page for a job that will require at least three months of hard work (if the cartoonist is fast).Lorenzo, Doctor H has invested € 500 and 20 copies sold the investment is returned entirely on the volume. He has remained in the hands of 60 copies. If he sells all at full price (and that it takes to sell 60 copies of a book?) Will enter into the pocket clean € 1500, will not have to share with anyone and generated by a product entirely managed by him. In essence, with only 80 copies print run has earned the same money that would come from a publisher "real", not giving the rights to anyone, not according to having to make compromises, running alone every aspect of his work. All this with a version that required a total of three days (a far cry from those two months in advance that, on average, need to work to a publisher volume). And keep in mind that LRNZ moved with a minimum print run, not doing any planning and without any promotion, having its only his talent and his experience (and the stand of SUPERAMICI , of \u200b\u200bwhich is a founding member, where it can sell its products, of course). What could be done if you decide to mettercisi seriously? And what you do, you?
and finally (temporarily) the able Robert explains in the third intervention, the modus operandi of small / medium publishers
the full article here and read
How to fulfill these tasks the publishers of small and mid-level, specialized in selling through bookstores and comics? Let's see, point by point.
- Existenceadvances with sales ranging from little to nothing and with the promise of future royalties if a comic book sells well (which happens to be good, once out of ten) I would say that this condition is not met.
- Finished Productdepends on who works here. There are publishers who make a real improvement to your work (with a serious work of editing) and publishers who deliver what they slaughtered. In the previous post only to point out that getting it all yourself is not difficult. And not too expensive.
- Visibility.Again, it depends on who works. Your publishing house has a press office? It 'a good press office or simply send a couple of e-mails and Comicus Mangaforever? As you follow the press office? For months, weeks or days? Again, if you do everything yourself, you can do well (if not better) for many publishers.
- Distribution. The kind of products we are talking about selling between 300 and 1000 copies (when it goes very well). The cases that come out of this fork are indeed cases. To move a small number of copies so there really need to go through distribution channels that can be eaten half the cover price? And indeed, a similar distribution is a value that an author can not get it myself? The figures we are talking about do not guarantee distribution. Are sales of condos that any of us could get by selling its books door to door (read: internet, trade fairs or meetings in the library).
